Consideration of High-Efficiency Alternative Energy Systems

Before construction of a new building starts, the person carrying out the work must:

  • analyse and take into account high-efficiency alternative energy systems
  • give a statement to Building Control to confirm that the analysis is complete

You should use the following form to provide the confirmation:

Reg 25A: Consideration of high efficiency alternative systems for new buildings

Once completed it must be emailed to buildingcontrol@cornwall.gov.uk

Common examples of high-efficiency alternative systems include:

  • Decentralised energy supply systems based on energy from renewable sources
  • Co-generation
  • District or block heating
  • Heat pumps

Following your statement, Building Control may need to see your detailed analysis. You must make it available if asked.

The Regulations encourage use of alternative energy systems. Approved Document L details the current standards relating to heating and cooling.
