Specialist Water Rescue

Cornwall Fire, Rescue and Community Safety (CFRCS) Service has four water rescue and flood response stations. They are strategically located across Cornwall to cover the known and potential risks that exist, they are as follows - Bude, St. Austell, Falmouth and Penzance.

The crews at those stations are trained to the nationally recognised criteria for swift water rescue and are classed as ‘Water Rescue Technicians (module 3)’; in total CFRS has approximately 100 water rescue technician personnel.

In addition to the water rescue technicians all other CFRS operational personnel are trained and equipped for bankside rescues with a wading capability. They are also trained to the nationally recognised criteria and are classed as ‘Water First Responder’s (module2)’.

CFRS also has 13 Water Incident Managers whose role at incidents involving water is to advise or assume command making operational tactical decisions.
