About the station
St. Austell Community Fire Station is a day staffed station with emergency response being provided by two watches (Orange Watch and Green Watch) plus an on-call crew.
We welcome applications from anyone interested in becoming an on-call firefighter. All shortlisted applicants will be invited to an assessment interview (regardless of whether there is a vacancy at the station or not). Suitable applicants will be invited to the (twice yearly) assessment centres and if successful they will be placed in the Talent Pool to be selected for progression to the Approved to Ride Course as and when an appropriate vacancy at their Fire Station arises

Community schemes and initiatives
In addition to responding to National Campaigns, crews at St Austell frequently visit children's groups to talk about fire safety issues, carry out door to door free home fire safety visits to undertake checks and supply / fit free smoke alarms as required. They regularly attend local events to promote fire safety in the home.

St. Austell Community Fire Station have a unique resource called early learning fire safety (elfs), which is available to borrow free of charge by all early years establishments (including: nurseries, pre-schools, child minder's). In June of each year the St. Austell Community Fire Station is host to Junior Lifeskills week. This is a multi-agency event where local school children visit the station and experience a wide range of safety related activities, from RNLI beach safety to fire safety in the home. The event runs for one week with over 600 children attending.
Following Lifeskills the station hosts its annual Open Day in aid of The Fire Fighters Charity. It is an opportunity for members of the community to visit the station, look at the appliances and equipment and participate in lots of fun activities. There are also personnel and vehicles from the other emergency services on display. These events are hugely successful with large sums of money being raised for a very worthwhile cause.
