How we consulted on the 2020/21 budget

The budget engagement focused on asking people:

  • if Cornwall Council delivers value for money for the services they use
  • if they were supportive in principle of increasing council tax by the maximum allowed by Government (currently 1.99%)
  • what council tax increase they were willing to pay

Extensive engagement in previous years, alongside feedback we receive through the residents’ survey, has given us a rich picture of the budget and spending priorities of Cornwall:

  • residents
  • businesses and
  • other stakeholders

The consultation was seeking to build on those results by providing a sense-check with regards to the direction of travel.

Consultation and engagement included:

  • An online survey was available on the Council’s website.
  • The budget consultation featured at various public Community Network Panel meetings;
  • We held a stakeholder consultation event. Representatives from a variety of organisations were invited. The event was also webcast live.  The oranisations invited included:
    • businesses
    • local councils
    • NHS
    • voluntary, community and social enterprise sector (VCSE)
  • The dedicated email address was available for people to send comments to the Council.
  • The consultation was widely promoted. Including via the media and social media
