The Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Local Nature Partnership (CIoSLNP) and Cornwall Council have officially launched Cornwall’s ‘Environmental Growth Strategy' which aims to encourage businesses, communities and individuals to work together to increase environmental, social and economic prosperity in Cornwall.

A first of its kind, environmental growth is focused on helping nature to do more for us.

The Strategy was officially launched by Cllr Edwina Hannaford on Friday 2 December 2016 at the CIOSLNP Annual Conference at the Alverton Hotel in Truro.

This Environmental Growth Strategy is not just a Council document: it is a strategy to ensure Cornwall has a sustainable future.

Following the formal launch of the Strategy at the conference, a wide range of businesses, individuals and organisations pledged to also do their bit towards achieving environmental growth in Cornwall.

To accompany the launch of the Strategy we also launched Biodiversity targets and Cornwall - here we assess how well Cornwall is faring against the Aichi Biodiversity Targets.

These targets have been established by the Convention on Biological Diversity as an international benchmark for judging progress of the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020.

We also took a look back at significant events which occurred in Cornwall's environment over the past 12 months: A Year in Cornwall's Environment 2016.

Environmental Growth means creating the space and conditions for more abundant, productive and healthier habitats, species and natural systems.  These, in turn, improve the lives of people.

We have created a Grow Nature Toolkit, this toolkit is the beginning of our journey to translate the strategy into a practical toolkit to help inspire and encourage the ‘whole’ community (businesses, communities and individuals) to make positive change.

To help support the Environmental Growth Strategy’s Ambition ‘Experiencing Cornwall’ the Historic Environment Record have been working to improve the Access to Monuments page to help the public spend more time outdoors and experiencing Cornwall’s culture and heritage.

At the Environmental Growth Challenge event in March we were pleased to announce the Seed Fund.

The Seed Fund will be awarded to schemes which result in tangible examples of Environmental Growth, final touches are being put to the application process, details can be found at The Grow Nature Seed Fund
