Guide to Cornwall's Building Stones

Cornwall has a wealth of mineral resources and a rich history of building and ornamental stone quarrying. Our building stones have served both the local construction industry and contributed to prestigious buildings nationally such as Tower Bridge, London.

The use of Cornish buidling stones contributes to the character of our local built environment and distincitiveness of our communities.

The former Cornwall County Council produced a guide to the sources of Cornish building stone and slates. Originally produced in 2007, the guide contains details of quarries which supply granite, slate and other building stones including the type of stone, its uses and characteristics and the quarry's contact details.

The guide is currently being updated and will be published in early 2020.
