Helston Townscape Heritage Initiative

The Helston THI was a property based grants scheme that targeted and engaged property owners / leaseholders in the improvement of historic property in the Helston Town Centre Conservation Area. The THI represented a one-off opportunity for owners of buildings to obtain significant grant-aid towards the cost of repair and restoration of their historic properties.

One of the main aims of the initiative was to help secure the physical enhancement and economic regeneration of Helston through the improvement of buildings and townscape in the heart of the town.

The aims of the scheme were achieved by awarding targeted grants for quality building repairs (using local materials and tradesmen and traditional methods where possible), reinstatement of architectural detailing and bringing vacant buildings and underused floor-space back into use.

This Helston THI was a hugely successful scheme, providing grant aid to over 30 properties in the town.

The Helston THI was administered by Kerrier District Council and funded by The Heritage Lottery Fund, Objective One (ERDF), Kerrier District Council, Cornwall Council and Helston Town Council.

The scheme finished in August 2008 and no further grants from this source of funding are available for this area.
