Severe Weather Emergency Protocol

Cornwall Council and its Partners are committed to doing all they can to protect the health and ensure the wellbeing of rough sleepers during periods of severe weather. A range of services are available to support rough sleepers into accommodation:

  • The Somewhere Safe to Stay (SStS) Hub is a 24/7 supported sit-up service for those rough sleeping or at risk of rough sleeping in Cornwall and which can accommodate up to 12 people at any one time. This service moves around Cornwall and in December 2019 is in Redruth;
  • The permanent 18 bed night shelter in Pool near Camborne run by Coastline;
  • There will is a new night shelter for cold weather provision this winter with up to 15 bed in St Austell which will be available until the end of February 2020 with the option to extend until the end of March 2020 if the weather remain poor.

Severe weather provision will be made available as required if the above options are not available and spaces are available across Cornwall and managed by Partners. The Severe Weather Emergency Protocol sets out what provision is available and when it will be triggered.
