The Penzance Creative Cluster

The Penzance Creative Cluster project aims to provide new high-quality workspaces for businesses in the creative sector. Check this video to find out more.

Subject to funding and planning consents, the project will see a new purpose-built facility at Causewayhead with more than 1,500m² of studio units and tenancies for a range of creative businesses – from visual artists and potters, to architects and digital media companies.

There will also be space for collaboration, informal meetings, networking and hot desking.

With its long-established links with culture and the arts, and a growing number of creative businesses in the town, Penzance is the ideal location for the building. The Council has applied to the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) for £3.2m and committed £2.6m to fund the project.

With a design that is both elegant and modern, whilst respecting the heritage of its surroundings and foundations upon a former livestock market and reservoir, the new building will form a landmark gateway into the town centre. Whilst supporting the wider town centre regeneration strategy, the scheme will encourage the creation of new employment both within and outside of the Creative Cluster, increasing footfall to the town centre and supporting existing local businesses.

The project is supported by the Penzance Regeneration Partnership and has evolved from the Penzance Spatial Study, forming a key part of an overall strategy for diversifying Penzance town centre. The workspace also forms part of the wider Penzance ‘High Streets Fund’ proposal that will be submitted to Government in due course.

The Penzance Creative Cluster will be built to BREEAM ‘Excellent’ standard and will minimise carbon emissions during both construction and operation.
