How to join

Being a Library Member offers you access to a wealth of information for leisure and learning.  Library membership is free to everyone living, working or studying in Cornwall and Devon including Torbay and Plymouth, for more than one month. 

Join a library online

Please be aware it may take us a little bit longer to process your request to join the library due to limited resources in our sites. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause but we aim to get your library membership number to you as soon as we can. You will then be able to use the electronic resources in our online library immediately.

Privacy Notice - your data protection rights.

By joining the library you agree to abide by the library regulations and by-laws.

On request, we can send you a courtesy email about any items which due for return from Libraryservice.feedback@cornwall.gov.uk (please add to your safe list).   If an item is overdue, the fine will be recorded on your account.

To allow us to offer you this service, it’s your responsibility that we have your up to date email address.

Children's membership

If you are under 16 your parent or guardian must sign your membership card.

Concessionary membership

Concessionary membership offers lower overdue item charges. You and your family living at the same address will qualify for concessionary membership if you provide evidence that you are in receipt of any of the following benefits:

  • council tax support
  • housing benefit
  • job seekers allowance (income based)
  • working tax credit
  • employment and support allowance
  • pension credit
  • full-time student (attending college for more than 12 hours a week)
  • refugees or asylum seekers will need proof of entitlement to benefits

Membership lasts for one year. On expiry you will be asked to produce evidence of continued entitlement.
