Ongoing Developments
One Public Transport System for Cornwall (OPTSfC)
This has been identified as one of the key deliverables under the Cornwall Devolution Deal. Our aim is to deliver and provide a fully integrated and sustainable public transport network. This is connected to the bus powers under the Bus Services Act 2017. You can keep up to date with the current developments of the project on the project news page.
There are 6 parts to the project
You can also view the One public transport system for Cornwall project diagram.
What are some of the things I can expect?
- By December 2019 public transport services will be integrated around a central spine of 2 mainline train services per hour. Buses will be timetabled to allow better connections with the improved rail service.
- We are working towards delivering smart ticketing across bus, rail and ferry services to enable seamless transfer between services.
- We are refreshing roadside facilities on key routes to include Real Time Information and Bus shelters.
- We are currently working on Showcase Corridors between Padstow and Plymouth; Penzance and Truro; St Ives and Truro; Truro and Bodmin; Redruth/Truro and Falmouth. A Showcase Corridor is a local bus route that we will be using to demonstrate and allow you to use some of the new technology, vehicles and developments in this project. They act similar to pilot or trial routes. View the current showcase corridor map.
How is this all being funded?
In 2015 Cornwall was awarded £8m Growth Deal 1 funding to match against the £2.375m from the Local Transport Plan to deliver improvements to the public transport to include infrastructure, vehicles, ticketing etc. In addition, Cornwall Council is awaiting the results of a bid to the Local Enterprise Partnership for additional Growth Deal 3 funding.
