Why did we carry out these works?
Prior to the works commencing, Carkeel junction was operating over capacity and severe congestion was being experienced at peak rush hour periods during the working week. This congestion increased during the more pronounced summer months with the addition of heavy volumes of tourist traffic.
This traffic congestion was also forecasted to be further exacerbated by increased traffic volumes associated with future growth in Saltash and Plymouth to 2030.
The first phase of the A38 Carkeel improvements contained three projects.
